With its second acquisition in 2019 Geia Food enhaces in Norway
In May 2019 Geia Food bought Danton Trading, a leading Danish importer of Greek products. The company is now in the process of its second acquisition this year – the Norwegian company BM Food AS.
Claus Ravnsbo, CEO, says:
“Geia Food has enjoyed considerable success in Norway since 2015, and we have of course kept ourselves appraised of businesses that would complement our own. The acquisition of BM Food consolidates our position on the Norwegian market, bringing us new skills and top brands.”
Reinforcement within fresh meats, groceries and refrigerated goods
BM Food was started in 1985 and has specialised in both import and sale of food products on the Norwegian market, covering categories such as fresh meat, groceries and refrigerated goods.
Focus in recent years has been increasingly on retail, representing and selling leading brands such as Maldon salt, Beyond Meat, Petti tomato products and Rummo pasta. The primary customers are Norwegian retail chains and leaders within the food service and industry segments.
The latest acquisition will take turnover for Geia Food in Norway to around DKK 300 million.
Experienced Norwegian team brings about a unique position
Managing Director and co-owner of BM Food, Øyvind Simonsen, will continue as Purchasing Director and shareholder in Geia Food Norway. He and the rest of the management team bring a total of more than 75 years of experience within the food industry, , along with concept development, purchase, and retail.
CEO Claus Ravnsbo explains about the Norwegian organisation:
“We are delighted to be able to welcome a number of key personnel from BM Food, who have opted to join us. Together with the Norwegian team Geia Food is well-positioned to generate more value for our customers and business associates over the coming years.”
The transaction is awaiting final approval from the Norwegian competition authorities.
